Due to diverse range of terrain, Pakistan is susceptible to vide range of Natural Disasters. In addition climate change is also causing extreme temperatures and severe heat/cold waves.
Generally natural disasters cause higher number of fatalities than terrorism and conventional wars. However this aspect received less focus and hence less funding. Response of a country to handle natural disaster is an indicator of its true power potential and hence should be given due priority.
Though there exists number of institutes in Pakistan for Disaster Management mostly armed forces are seen in action. In of the contributory factors threatening the national security in modern era is environmental degradation. Pakistan’s economy is agrarian bases and is highly sensitive to climate change as crop production may be seriously affected.

A rise in normal temperature leads to severe heat waves, cyclones and storms thereby causing more deaths. A natural melting process of glaciers is accelerated which causes floods, rise in sea level and its allied effects.
Rising temperatures create a favourable environment for spread of communicable diseases. Thus climate change is a serious threat to National Security and should be considered as such.
To minimize the effects of disasters following is recommended.
