Biden Urged to Step Aside in Presidential Race| News and Media| Updated July 7 2024

In recent news, democratic party congressman Lloyd Doggett called for Joe Biden to step down as democratic nominee and make way for another candidate for November presidential elections. He is the first one to make this statement publicly. This statement came after Biden’s poor performance in presidential debate against Trump. Though Doggett is the only one to express it publicly, but many democrats share their concerns privately.

Nancy Pelosi Representative CA 11th District suggest that both Trump and Biden should take mental and fitness health tests. The fact that Nancy Pelosi is close ally of Biden make it important. Pelosi also shared that she heard mix messages from democrats that rather Biden should stay in the race for presidency or not. Another prominent Democrat, Jim Clyburn, stated he would support Vice President Kamala Harris as democrat’s president candidate if Biden were to step down.

Despite the perceived poor performance and criticism from his own party and outer circle, President Biden shows no sign of stepping down. His family and close sources say that he has no intention of moving away and they back him to be president again. While Biden insist that jet lag and poor decision-making regarding travel schedule are reason behind his poor performance in presidential debate with Trump.

On the republican side, the sentencing of Donald Trump for falsifying business records has been postponed until September. The Supreme Court rule the former president has partial immunity. Trump’s lawyer asks for the chance to argue that he should not have been prosecuted given some evidence they say came from his time in office. Prosecutors did not object though they said the argument was entirely without Merit. The former president was convicted of paying hush money to a porn actress as campaigned in 2016. This delay removes the possibility of the sentencing coinciding with the Republican National Convention but places it closer to critical pre-election debates.

Political analyst Thad Kousser from the University of California, San Diego, noted that the ongoing discussions about Biden’s performance and potential replacement are intensifying. While current polls haven’t shown a shift following the debate, Biden’s campaign argues that the race remains tightly contested, with voter mobilization being the key factor. Potential Democratic replacements for Biden, such as Kamala Harris and governors like Gretchen Whitmer and Andy Beshear, are currently polling behind Biden and Trump.

As the political situation is evolving both parties are facing complex challenges leading up to the elections. With Biden facing heat from his poor performance and Trump will see difficult challenges if he is sentenced for falsifying business records as his sentence will impact the important phases of presidential debates.
